It has been decided. You are going to make something out of yourself. Gone are the excuses. Say goodbye to ‘later’. Now is the time. Now is your time.
Sat at home it’s hard to start. You’re at zero. Luckily there are friends, family and colleagues who’ll tell you exactly how it’s done.
With the best intentions from both sides, you take in their knowledge, colouring your opinion with their outlook on life. Filling your brain with words of the sages.
Before you mistake subjectivity for truth, always wonder if the person speaking is at the destination you wish to reach. Because, in case you hadn’t noticed: everybody talks.
Listen to those that mean well and are in a position to speak. Take advice from the lawyer on law, the doctor on medicine and the professional boxer on how to throw a punch. Add a pound of salt to the lectures of the professor that majored in YouTube and computer games.
There will be enough obese individuals trying to tell you how to become ripped. Numerous notorious cheaters will try to enlighten you on how to establish meaningful, amorous relationships, and plenty of depressed loners will try to gift you the secret to happiness.
However, be aware. As eight billion people have it all figured out, none of us do. Know that every frase uttered is altered by one’s own experiences, success and failure.
The majority tends to forget how insignificant we all are. During moments of temporary amnesia, put on a coat, a pair of shoes and spend five minutes in any given city centre of choice at nighttime. It will remind you of that insignificance.
That goes for the words that you are reading now as well: Don’t trust ‘em? Don’t believe ‘em. What do I know, right?
Educate yourself. Questioning it all might lead to a satisfying answer. Obtaining actual knowledge will serve you on the road to growth.
